Block 51 Bee Happy

Applique! I have to say I am liking it more and more! You can get the pattern for this block at The Splendid Sampler. We’ve past the half way point in this quilt-a-long. It has made me try lots of new techniques along the way and I am am really enjoying it. So sorry for the break in posting. We took a quick get away at the end of August and then there was Hurricane Hermine. We were without power for five days over the Labor Day weekend. Tallahassee is full of trees, big ones, which were the cause of most of the power outages. Damage in our yard was minimal, with this really large oak branch just missing the fence. North Florida has a great variety of trees, but many of the large oaks and pines came down in the storm.

Anyway, it has taken me a while to get back to posting, but here goes.

For this block I used the No Sewing Until You Quilt It method again. It worked well for this particular block. I secured the pieces with a blanket stitch after making the quilt sandwich.

Here’s how I quilted it:

  • Blanket stitch around all the applique pieces
  • Stitched a circle in the bee head
  • Stitched antenna
  • Stitched a teardrop shape with hash marks in each of the wings
  • Stitch the border design like the other blocks.
