Block 54 Shell

img_1239

A challenging paper pieced block. Getting all those fabrics to meet in a really sharp point was very difficult. Mine is definitely not perfect.Sometimes I wonder if trimming the seam allowances might help when so many fabrics meet in a point like that. One of the things I like about this project is you only have to create one of the blocks. The process helps to hone your skills, but you don’t need to be frustrated with something you aren’t great at either. Just finish it and move on to the next block. The Splendid Sampler has the patterns for all the blocks so far. The patterns are free until February 2017.

Here’s how I quilted it:

  • Stitched in the ditch around the outside of the shell.
  • Echo stitched arcs about 1/2 inch apart.
  • Stitch the border design like the other blocks.
