Block 60 Hearts and Flowers

I am enjoying embroidery again! I have always loved hand stitching, but had stopped doing it for some reason. What do I mean? – some reason. Life happens and some things just didn’t fit into the time I had when my son was younger. Now that he is off at college, I have lots more time to devote to the other things I love to do. You can get the pattern for this over at The Splendid SamplerI traced the pattern onto the fabric using a pencil this time. It was just as easy since this was a fairly simple design. I used embroidery thread from my stash to complete the embroidery using a combination of two and three threads. Once the stitching was completed, I pressed it with the stitching down on a towel as to not flatten the stitches.

Here’s how I quilted it using the ruler presser foot:

  • Stitched around the heart to begin the design.
  • Echoed around the inside and outside of the heart using the ruler foot as a measuring tool while stitching and right over the embroidery in the middle of the heart
  • Echoed around the flower designs under the heart using the ruler foot as a measuring tool while stitching.
  • Stitch the border design like the other blocks.

I really like the effect of the embroidery and the quilting together. All of these different techniques will produce a very interesting final quilt.

Until Next Time!
