You might think this is paper pieced, but it is not. Joan Ford prefers piecing to paper piecing. You can get the pattern for the pieced block over at the Splendid Sampler or you can preorder the book. Just a reminder that the patterns will only be available for free for two weeks after the Sampler finishes. Joan Ford also has a tutorial over at the Hummingbird Highway. Joan also provides the reverse pattern there if you want the bird facing the other way.
- Stitched around the outline of the bird, beak, eye, wing, tail, and legs.
- Echo stitched the bird’s breast with curved lines.
- Stitched wiggly lines in the tail and wing.
- Stippling in the light blue background.
- Stitch the border design like the other blocks.
I love the way you can see the bird on the back of the block.
