Piecing and Applique. I had wallpaper in my bedroom as a kid that was pink and green. This block reminds me of the colors in that wallpaper.
The Splendid Sampler patterns are no longer available for free, but you can preorder the book that contains all of the patterns. The book looks very nice. If you haven’t started your blocks yet, it is not too late. It looks like they will be starting a new quilt-a-long again in May after the books ship!
I followed the pattern, but I used a rectangle for two of the squares of the 9-patch in a color I don’t really like for the hidden portion of the 9-patch. I used a button hole stitch on my Juki HZL-F600 to applique the flag pieces.
Here’s how I quilted it using my ruler foot (My ruler foot is a Westalee, but many other companies are now making them. If you get one make sure it will fit your sewing machine.):
- Stitch around the applique pieces.
- Echo stitch around the applique pieces using the ruler foot as a guide.
- Stitch the border design like the other blocks.
Until Next Time!
